Ghana Shopping Baskets

These baskets from Ghana are skillfully woven from elephant grass, a fully sustainable material grown locally. The dyes used are primarily plant-based, including sorghum. By twisting the grass, these baskets gain remarkable strength, and the handles are crafted from straw wrapped in goat leather. Each basket takes about two and a half days to weave. Due to their handcrafted nature, sizes are approximate, and colors and patterns will vary.
